Roofers are licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board in classification C-15 Roofing and siding. Subclassification C-15a Roofing covers installing, applying, altering and repairing watertight and weatherproof roof materials such as asphalt, pitch, tar, felt, shakes, shingles, aluminum, tile, slate, urethane and photovoltaic roof tiles that replace other roofing. It does not allow installing conduits, inverters, batteries or electrical connections (NAC 624.320). (source: Nevada Legislature)
The handyman limit
Nevada's contractor law does not apply to work to repair or maintain property worth less than $1,000, including labor and materials, unless: a building permit is required; the work is of a type done by a plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, heating or air-conditioning contractor; the work is in a classification that significantly affects public health, safety and welfare; the work is part of a larger project worth $500 or more, or was split into contracts under $500 to get around the law; or the person doing it is a licensed contractor or a licensee's employee (NRS 624.031, subsection 6). Most re-roofs in the City of Las Vegas that involve tile or more than 64 square feet of sheathing need a permit, and work that needs a permit is not covered by the under $1,000 exemption. (source: City of Las Vegas Building and Safety) (source: Nevada Legislature)
